GENERAL INFORMATION

ALIETTE® WDG Systemic Fungicide can be used to control Anthracnose, Phytophthora, Downy Mildew, Blue mold, Purple blotch, Red stele, Blister spot and Pythium, and to suppress White rust, Phomopsis canker and Sudden oak death. ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide is completely systemic. Product applied to leaves will move downwards to the roots. ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide is most effective when used as a preventative treatment. Plants displaying early disease symptoms, or when conditions for disease are favourable, are most likely to benefit from this treatment.

PRECAUTIONS:

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, long coveralls (with hood) over normal clothes and chemical-resistant headgear during mixing/loading, application, cleanup and repair activities. Chemical-resistant headgear includes Sou’Wester hat, chemical-resistant rain hat or large brimmed waterproof hat and hood with sufficient neck protection. For mechanically-pressurized hand gun application: Wear chemical-resistant coveralls when using mechanically-pressurized hand gun equipment. Do not reenter treated area until residues have dried. Workers harvesting tobacco should wear long coveralls and gloves. Avoid breathing dust. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Wash concentrate from skin or eyes immediately. After use, wash hands and other exposed skin. Wash hands and face before eating, drinking, smoking or using the toilet. Apply only when the potential for drift to areas of human habitation and human activity (other than golf courses) such as parks, school grounds and playing fields is minimal. Take into consideration wind speed, wind direction, temperature inversions, application equipment and sprayer settings. Store the container tightly closed away from seeds, fertilizer, plants and foodstuffs. Keep away from ponds, streams and other water sources.

TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION:

No specific antidote. Treat symptomatically.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS:

TOXIC to aquatic organisms. Observe buffer zones specified under DIRECTIONS FOR USE.

Toxic to small wild mammals.

Toxic to certain beneficial insects. Minimize spray drift to reduce harmful effects on beneficial insects in habitats next to the application site such as hedgerows and woodland.

To reduce runoff from treated areas into aquatic habitats avoid application to areas with a moderate to steep slope, compacted soil, or clay.

Avoid application when heavy rain is forecast.

Contamination of aquatic areas as a result of runoff may be reduced by including a vegetative strip between the treated area and the edge of the water body.

STORAGE:

Store ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide in a dry, ventilated place away from feed, seed or foodstuffs. Unused product should be stored in original bag. Fold bag over and staple securely. ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide left exposed to the air will absorb moisture over time and become unusable. If the product becomes caked or lumpy, do not use.

DISPOSAL:

1.     Empty bag thoroughly.

2.     Follow provincial instructions for any required additional cleaning of the bag prior to its disposal.

3.     Make the empty bag unsuitable for further use.

4.     Dispose of the bag in accordance with provincial requirements.

5.     For information on disposal of unused or unwanted product, contact the manufacturer or the provincial regulatory agency. Contact the manufacturer and the provincial regulatory agency in case of a spill, and for clean-up of spills.

NOTICE TO USER: This pest control product is to be used only in accordance with the directions on the label. It is an offence under the Pest Control Products Act to use this product in a way that is inconsistent with the directions on the label.

RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS:

For resistance management, please note that ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide contains a Group P07 fungicide. Any fungal population may contain individuals naturally resistant to ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide and other Group P07 fungicides. A gradual or total loss of pest control may occur over time if these fungicides are used repeatedly in the same fields. Other resistance mechanisms that are not linked to site of action but specific for individual chemicals, such as enhanced metabolism, may also exist. Appropriate resistance-management strategies should be followed.

To delay fungicide resistance:

Where possible, rotate the use of ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide or other PO7 fungicides with different groups that control the same pathogens.

Fungicide use should be based on an IPM program that includes scouting, historical information related to pesticide use and crop rotation and considers host plant resistance, impact of environmental conditions on disease development, disease thresholds, as well as cultural, biological and other chemical control practices.

Where possible, make use of predictive disease models to effectively time fungicide applications.

Monitor treated fungal populations for resistance development. Notify Bayer CropScience Inc. if reduced sensitivity of the pathogen to ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide is suspected.

If disease continues to progress after treatment with this product, do not increase the use rate. Discontinue use of this product, and switch to another fungicide with a different target site of action, if available.

Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any additional pesticide resistance-management and/or IPM recommendations for specific crops and pathogens.

For further information and to report suspected resistance, contact Bayer CropScience Inc. representatives at 1-888-283-6847 or at www.cropscience.bayer.ca.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

When applied as directed, ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide will control the listed diseases, unless otherwise indicated as suppression.

DO NOT apply by air.

Do not apply this product using handheld or automated fogging or mist blower equipment.

Do not apply this product using ultra-low volume (ULV) equipment.

Not for use on other residential turf sites including residential lawns, gardens, playing fields, cemeteries, and schools.

Do not apply this product by foliar application on greenhouse ornamentals grown for cut flowers.

TANK MIXES:

Bayer CropScience Inc. has determined that phytotoxicity from solubilized copper may occur if products containing copper are tank mixed with ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide or if unbuffered ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide is applied to foliage with copper residues.

Do not tank mix with copper compounds. When applied prior to or after copper compounds, the pH of ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide should be raised to 6.0 or above with the addition of an alkaline buffer such as Potassium Carbonate (1.4 kg Potassium Carbonate to 2.3 kg ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide) or DiAmmonium Phosphate (2.3 kg DiAmmonium Phosphate to 2.3 kg ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide).

Adjuvants which enhance pesticide penetration may cause phytotoxicity when mixed with ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide.

Mixing ALIETTE WDG Systemic Fungicide with surfactants or foliar fertilizers is not recommended. Crop sensitivity to a particular combination should be determined by spraying a small area of foliage and fruit. Evaluate 3–7 days later for adverse effects.

This product may be tank mixed with registered pest control products, whose labels also allow tank mixing, provided the entirety of both labels, including Directions For Use, Precautions, Restrictions, Environmental Precautions, and Spray Buffer Zones are followed for each product. In cases where these requirements differ between the tank mix partner labels, the most restrictive label must be followed. Do not tank mix products containing the same active ingredient unless specifically listed on this label.

In some cases, tank mixing pest control products can result in reduced pesticide efficacy or increased host crop injury. The user should contact Bayer CropScience Inc. at 1-888-283-6847 or www.cropscience.bayer.ca for information before applying any tank mix that is not specifically recommended on this label.

Bayer CropScience Inc. has not fully assessed performance (efficacy) and/or crop tolerance (phytotoxicity) of all potential tank mixes under all environmental conditions or for all crop varieties. Tank mixes that are not specifically listed on this label should be tested on a small area first, under local conditions and using standard practices, to confirm the tank mix is suitable for widespread application.

To determine the physical compatibility of this product with other products, use a jar test.

Field sprayer application:

DO NOT apply during periods of dead calm. Avoid application of this product when winds are gusty. DO NOT apply with spray droplets smaller than the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE S572.1) medium classification. Boom height must be 60 cm or less above the crop or ground.

DO NOT apply by air.

Spray buffer zones:

A spray buffer zone is NOT required for:

uses with handheld application equipment permitted on this label,

low-clearance hooded or shielded sprayers that prevent spray contact with crop, fruit or foliage,

               soil drench or soil incorporation.

The buffer zones specified in the table below are required between the point of direct application and the closest downwind edge of sensitive freshwater habitats (such as lakes, rivers, sloughs, ponds, prairie potholes, creeks, marshes, streams, reservoirs and wetlands) and estuarine/marine habitats.

*For field sprayer application, buffer zones can be reduced with the use of drift reducing spray shields. When using a spray boom fitted with a full shield (shroud, curtain) that extends to the crop canopy, the labelled buffer zone can be reduced by 70%. When using a spray boom where individual nozzles are fitted with cone-shaped shields that are no more than 30 cm above the crop canopy, the labelled buffer zone can be reduced by 30%.

For tank mixes, consult the labels of the tank mix partners and observe the largest (most restrictive) buffer zone of the products involved in the tank mixture and apply using the coarsest spray (ASAE) category indicated on the labels for those tank mix partners.
